Jam Master Jay Memorial Concert Planned For January

A memorial benefit concert is in the works to commemorate what would have been Jam Master Jay's 39th birthday, according to Allhiphop.com. The concert, is tentatively scheduled for January 21st in New York, will benefit the Jam Master Jay for Youth Foundation.

The head of the Jam Master Jay for Youth Foundation, Marvin Thompson, explained that a scholarship luncheon is also planned for next month where 1000 students would receive a $2,000 scholarship and a laptop computer.

Thompson said, "It's a really positive thing we are trying to do. We're hoping to get support from the community and corporate sponsors so we can continue the scholarships."

Jam Master Jay, whose real name was Jason Mizell, was killed on October 30, 2002 when two assailants allegedly entered his Queens, New York recording studio and opened fire, shooting Jam Master Jay in the head and another man in the leg. Police are still investigating the crime.
